Art Editor(s) role

Art Editors are responsible for assembling a rich set of artwork in each issue, which entails a mix of logistical and creative/curatorial work. Usually there are several art editors working collaboratively to ensure the following:

  • Artwork throughout the issue is vibrant and impactful

  • Articles are supported by the best possible illustration

  • Complying with an artwork budget and/or proposing changes to the budget

Responsibilities include:

  • Deciding on the best process for selecting artwork

  • Developing and meeting a timeline for selecting and finalizing artwork

  • Acting as point-of-contact with artwork contributors

  • Setting shared expectations through collaboration with the Editorial Collective

  • Contributing original artwork, to the extent needed and dependent on availability

Art Editors meet separately from the EC but are also welcome to participate in the EC, dependent on interest and availability. Art Editors should also touch base with the EC on a periodic basis.
