Artwork
Artwork plays an important role in the magazine. We use artwork to improve the accessibility of SftP’s work by harnessing visual content to engage readers, demonstrate concepts, and diversify both the range of voices and cultural representations within the publication (translate, educate, and expand). Artwork is selected by the artwork editorial collective with support from the issue's main editorial collective based on several factors.
There are four main categories of artwork in the magazine:
Article illustrations
Support written articles by bringing stories to life and enabling readers to engage with sometimes hard to understand content
Art features
Highlight the work of a diverse range of artists, giving voice to thematic content that may not be strictly editorial
Cover art
Artwork that is thematically aligned and captures the interest of potential readers
Visual stories
Editorial content that centers primarily on multimedia or visual storytelling. Visual stories entail a greater degree of collaboration between a lead editor on the EC and an arts editor, and they are much less common than the other three categories
