The contents of an issue vary depending on the needs/vision of the editorial collective, but typically include:

  • : varies, aiming for 5-8 features of 1,500-2,000 words related to the theme of the issue

  • : aiming for 1 per issue, 2,000 words

  • : approximately 1,000 words, but flexible; aiming for 2-5 reviews per issue. Typically we have one longer feature review (~1500 words) and two shorter reviews. They can cover art exhibist, collections or series; we’re always open to ideas on how to make our reviews section a way to make connections with authors, publishers, and artists.

  • : approximately 1,000 word biography of revolutionary scientists

  • : approximately three-four pieces of 1,000-1,500 words. Can be op-eds, notes from SftP members, other punchy content. Our relaunch issue includes an essay on SftP’s revitalization and a listicle on ways to support our People’s Green New Deal campaign.

  • : a rotating selection of 3-5 500-1,000 word reports and photos, from SftP chapters and working groups

  • or GIS features from our Mapping Collective

  • includes bios for all of our authors and artists
